DISCOVERY
IS THE
NEW SEARCH.
Google isn't the search engine anymore.
MAPPING TODAY'S DISCOVERY JOURNEYTHE FUNNEL WAS
A ROAD MAP.
For twenty years the journey had one on-ramp. A person wanted something. They typed it into a box. They got ten blue links. They chose one. They arrived.
THEN THE BOX
STOPPED SENDING
PEOPLE OUT.
The destination stopped giving directions. It started giving answers.
DISCOVERY DIDN'T DIE.
IT MOVED.
People still look. They just don't start with a question.
IT'S NOT A FUNNEL ANYMORE.
IT'S AN ORBIT.
A funnel assumes intent at the top. Discovery has no top. It has an ambient field, a moment of pull, and a loop that feeds itself.
ORBIT
DRIFT
No query. No intent. Just presence.
The customer is scrolling, not searching. There is no box to rank in. Your brand is either part of the ambient field they move through every day, or it isn't in the journey at all.
SIGNAL
Something has enough gravity to stop the scroll.
A clip. A creator. A comment. A storefront on the walk home. Signal is earned by craft, not bought by frequency.
ORBIT
Now they circle, everywhere you are not in.
Reddit threads. TikTok comments. An AI answer. A group chat. They are evaluating what other people said about you when you weren't in the room.
PROOF
The question changes from “is it good?” to “is it real?”
Reviews. Receipts. A physical space. A human who answers. Verification is the conversion step.
PULL
The purchase lands wherever friction is lowest.
In-feed, in-app, in-store, in the DMs. Every step you ask the customer to travel is a step where the orbit decays.
ECHO
Your customer becomes the next person's DRIFT.
Their post, review, or recommendation re-enters the ambient field as somebody else's stage one. The loop closes here.
THREE THINGS
TO STOP DOING.
Start building presence.
Ranking first on a page nobody clicks is not a win.
Start counting mentions.
The purchase is often decided in comments, threads and answers you don't own.
Start engineering the journey.
You cannot be the address anymore. You have to be the gravity.
