Case Study: Decked Out Detroit

Decked Out Detroit is a placemaking and lifestyle initiative by Bedrock Detroit designed to position Downtown Detroit as a vibrant destination to shop, eat, and play. It curates retail, dining, and cultural experiences into a single, accessible platform that encourages exploration, supports local businesses, and activates the city through seasonal programming and events.

Messenger Ink partnered with Bedrock Detroit to help shape the visual brand direction for Decked Out Detroit. Working in collaboration with Bedrock’s internal creative agency, we contributed to the design and refinement of a new logo system and developed a flexible visual framework spanning digital touchpoints. Our work included visual brand direction, logo development support, web layout concepts, and social media templates—creating a cohesive, scalable system built to perform across web, social, and experiential environments.

Case Study: The Challenge

Bedrock Detroit was launching Decked Out Detroit, a citywide initiative designed to spotlight downtown Detroit as a destination to shop, eat, and play during a moment of national attention.

The challenge was to create a distinct visual identity that felt unmistakably Detroit, flexible across digital and physical environments, and capable of scaling quickly across web, social, signage, and partner platforms. This work also required close collaboration with Bedrock’s internal creative agency, aligning multiple teams around a single, coherent visual language.

The system gave Bedrock and its partners a flexible toolkit to promote Detroit as a vibrant, high-energy destination while maintaining brand consistency at scale.

The work helped establish Decked Out Detroit as a polished, city-forward platform that balanced cultural pride with operational clarity—ready to perform across digital channels, physical environments, and future campaigns.
